Galapagos Tortoise

On our trip to the Galapagos we were able to photograph some of the large tortoises that live there. These reptiles can weigh over 900 pounds and live over 100 years. They seem to do it in slow motion which is the opposite of the Storm Petrels in the last post. They started the day in a mud pit and moved out to graze as the day warmed. You have to be careful not to scare them or the head can disappear into the shell for a long time.
